Software Developer & AI Integrator
Bandung, Indonesia
I'm Gerry Herdianto, a software developer and AI integrator based in Bandung, Indonesia. My background is in full-stack engineering — Node.js, Go, Java, and modern web platforms — and my work today centres on architecture, engineering leadership, and delivering complex projects from start to finish.
About
I began my career as a full-stack developer, and I still think of myself as an engineer first. Over the years I have worked across most of the stack: APIs and services in Node.js, Go, and Java Quarkus; front ends in Vue.js, React, and TypeScript; and PostgreSQL behind much of it. That experience shapes how I lead. I understand the work because I have done it myself.
In my current role, I lead a multi-disciplinary engineering team and set the technical direction for the projects we deliver, from the first architecture discussions through delivery and long-term maintenance. A large part of that work involves enterprise platforms — WordPress at scale and Odoo ERP for accounting and inventory — and connecting systems so they work together reliably. More recently, that has included practical uses of AI: integrating large language models and agent-based workflows into tools that teams already use every day.
Alongside that work, I take on a small number of consulting engagements each year. These usually involve a platform that has outgrown its original design, a system integration, or an engineering team preparing for its next stage of growth. If any of that sounds familiar, I would be glad to talk.
Expertise
Setting technical direction and leading the people who deliver it. I work closely with founders and executives, and I make sure engineering decisions are made with the goals of the business in mind.
Designing and building systems across the full stack, with an emphasis on clarity and performance — and on code that other engineers can pick up and maintain.
Implementing and extending the platforms many businesses run on, and integrating them with the rest of the organisation's systems.
Applying current AI technology in a measured way: integrated into existing workflows, with proper attention to cost, reliability, and the privacy of business data.
Principles
01
I choose technology after I understand the business problem, not before. Most of the expensive mistakes I have seen came from solving the wrong problem very well.
02
Requirements change, and so do teams. Systems that are easy to understand and easy to modify cope with that. Unnecessarily clever ones usually do not.
03
Software is read and maintained far more often than it is written. Clear structure, sensible tooling, and proper documentation are not extras; they are the work.
04
Good software comes from teams with clear responsibilities, honest communication, and enough room to do careful work. Protecting those conditions is part of my job.
